My mission is to empower women of color in Texas to live a well balanced life among the multilayers of struggles we face. As a woman of color, I understand the impact of multiple traumatic events like the trauma experienced by adjusting to a new country, navigating the push and pull of parents trying to hold onto cultural values while you are trying to assimilate to the host culture, the challenges experienced when the people of the host culture do not fully accept you because of your differences, the difficulties faced at your job or school because of racial differences or because you are a woman, and the list goes on. These experiences can lead to anxiety and depression and can weigh heavily on your life.
Let’s work together to navigating these challenges faced as immigrants, first generation, or second generation people of color. As a South Asian American, I am familiar with these struggles and will be someone who has an understanding of these dynamics. It is important to highlight however, that everyone’s journey is different and you are the expert storyteller of your journey. I will be someone who listens, assists you to identify your goals, and empowers you along the therapeutic process. I will provide you with a non-judgmental, confidential safe space for you to express all you wish to share.
My background includes graduating with a Master of Science degree from Columbia University School of Social Work. I have worked as a licensed social worker in the mental health field for the past 16 years with experience working with children, adolescents, adults, people with disabilities, and geriatric individuals. In my past roles, I have worked as a social worker for a foster care agency, as a psychotherapist for children and adults, and as a psychiatric emergency room social worker and supervisor.
