The South Asian Mental Health Initiative and Network (SAMHIN), founded in 2014, continues to play a vital role in addressing the mental health needs of the South Asian community in the United States, with its roots in New Jersey. Over the years, SAMHIN has received awards, recognition, and most importantly, everyone’s hearts.

On August 16, 2025, SAMHIN organized a community picnic at a picturesque park in Edison, NJ. Blessed with perfect weather, the event provided an open, welcoming space for individuals and families to come together in celebration, support, and solidarity.

The day featured music, dance, laughter, and games. The stage was open to all, encouraging everyone to sing, perform, and share their personal stories. Attendees spoke about their journeys with mental health, describing how they overcame challenges with hope and perseverance. Many highlighted the role of SAMHIN’s support groups in helping them navigate ongoing struggles. The dedicated SAMHIN team carefully curated games and brought energy and smiles to participants of all ages. The picnic offered delicious food, creating opportunities for meaningful conversations and strengthening community ties.
