At some point in our lives, we have all felt sad, anxious, lonely, or angry. This is normal and part of the human process. But, we sometimes get locked into these emotions, and it begins to feel like our life is out of control or we are in over our heads. In addition, within the South Asian culture, there is still a significant stigma surrounding mental health and seeking out help for it. Not only can this make someone feel isolated, but it can exacerbate the underlying mental health issue he/she/they are struggling with in the first place. While this is slowly changing, research has shown that South Asian Americans still have one of the lowest rates of seeking out mental health services. Not only do I want to support my fellow South Asian Americans by helping them living a life that they value, but I also want to be part of the change. I want to help break down the distortions related to therapy being a sign of weakness; that seeking out therapy will bring shame to the family; and the idea that it is taboo to talk about our feelings or our internal experience and, rather, we should always make interdependent choices.
I specialize in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) in order to help individuals with depression, anxiety, trauma, and cultural adjustments. In my work with couples, I utilize the Gottman Method. I also offer ADHD Psychological Testing/Reports for adults.
With that said, please feel free to reach out to see if we are compatible to work together – I look forward to chatting!
