The historic annual event of Glen Cove Mela will serve as a great opportunity to bring mental health awareness to this Long Island Sikh community. SAMHIN team will provide a safe space to engage the community members in a meaningful dialogue on mental health and substance use. The goal is to raise the mental health awareness, decrease stigma, increase mental health literacy of the community. Will provide free educational material.
Rutgers Robert Johnson Medical Students will explore common misconceptions and misunderstanding about Eating disorders. Through open discussion presentation will strive for improved understanding of Eating Disorders especially in the South Asians. This workshop aims to reduce stigma surrounding eating disorders and foster supportive conversations about this and promote awareness. You will learn about the warning signs and explore culturally informed ways to support ourselves and our loved ones.
The SAMHIN team of mental health clinicians will conduct free mental health screenings. Psychiatrists, psychologists and social workers will be available to answer your questions about mental health, alcohol and drug use and provide any advice and referrals needed. Free educational handouts will be made available. You will have a chance to speak with a clinician confidentially and without being judged. Information and Narcan supply will be provided to provided to help prevent opioid overdose deaths.

Through open discussion and education, students will discuss influences on South Asian women's mental health and overall wellbeing. This workshop aims to foster supportive conversations, reduce stigma surrounding mental health, and promote awareness of available resources.
