The South Asian Mental Health Initiative and Network (SAMHIN) relies on community outreach as a cornerstone of its mission to reduce stigma surrounding mental illness and substance use disorders while promoting mental health awareness and education within the South Asian community across the United States.

Whether you are a student, parent, or community leader, SAMHIN provides the tools, education, and confidential support you need to prioritize mental wellness.

About Our Events

SAMHIN conducts free outreach events in safe, welcoming, and culturally responsive settings, including universities, colleges, community centers, parks, and places of worship such as temples, mosques, churches, and gurdwaras. These events provide opportunities to increase mental health literacy, foster open conversations about mental well-being, offer mental health screenings for early identification of concerns, and promote prevention and early intervention strategies.

Mental Health & Substance Use Screenings

As part of its outreach efforts, SAMHIN offers free and confidential mental health and substance use screenings conducted by licensed clinicians, culturally tailored workshops addressing topics such as stress, family and generational dynamics, and emotional well-being, and support in multiple South Asian languages to ensure meaningful communication and accessibility.

These programs are delivered by a dedicated network of mental health professionals and trained community volunteers who understand the unique cultural values, experiences, and challenges of South Asian communities. Through these efforts, SAMHIN helps connect individuals and families with information, resources, and support that promote mental wellness and improve access to care.
